The Renault 5 engines TG500

Mid-engined, high performance, smooth, quiet, ideal gear ratios, reverse gear, good spares availability, easy cruising at 80mph. No overheating. Excellent brakes.

The TG500 is built using a rear engine frame which incorporates Mini rubber cone suspension, Mini hubs and brakes on all four wheels, and standard Renault 5 850cc engine and TL gearbox. The double wishbone rear suspension keeps the wheels vertical under all load variations.

Self-build kits start at £2,100 for the basic rear frame and body panel kit to take the donor Mini and Renault parts, rising to £8,800 for a full kit including engine and gearbox, suspension, hubs, new brakes, driveshafts, twin exhausts, pedals with hydraulic master cylinder, wheels and tyres, new monocoque, fuel tanks, radiator and electric fan.

It is possible to build a TG500 without using any original Messerschmitt parts, particually a Sport, Roadster or Record Breaker Version.

Building a TG500 is not cheap. Many specialist trim parts, lights and mirrors all add up and in time and money spent. An approxamate guide to the cost of building a car is between £10,000 and £12,000 depending on the source of donor parts and the specification of the lights and trim.

Messerschmitt donor parts normally required; monocoque, nose, door, front swing arms/king pins/stub axles, steering bar and track rods.

Other parts available off the shelf include; Alloy trim (both sizes), Alloy trim ends, seat piping, silver wing piping, port holes, TG seat cloth, floor mats and hub-caps.

The cost of a fully built up car to customer specification is from £19,750

Now available with 5 speed gearbox option for relaxed high speed driving.
